Unveiling a Bizarre Steam Demo: Controlling a Poop with the Goal to Arrive at the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and players have discovered plenty of interesting creations from small studios. But, one is particularly notable for its offbeat concept. Called Unko Technica, this old-school styled platformer includes a character that is literally a piece of poop striving to travel to a commode. In case you're wondering, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."
The gameplay is easy to grasp: just use a single jump button. Throughout 150 stages, you'll face boss fights and unlock a store to purchase customizations for your dung hero.
Plan your movements with caution, since one mistake requires beginning again. Leap on air pockets to launch your character to new heights, cross fragile surfaces, and interact with triggers to unlock hidden paths. Gather currency and use them on tougher stages in which things gets crazy.
Visually, the experience shows off vibrant environments and catchy background music. Its minimalist visual style featuring morphing geometric shapes could recall gamers of classic titles like Earthbound.
Even though hard to think of previous releases where you play as a dung character, video games frequently included fecal matter. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, you can create explosives from character waste. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize manure as soil enrichment. Naturally, such content shows up extensively in the South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.
Despite its silly idea, Unko Technica has already garnered significant awards, such as taking top honors at a major publisher's GYAAR Studio in 2023. A playable preview is available now on Steam, with the full game set to debut on PC in the fall.
